Purpose

DataDiligence is a boutique consultancy providing data due diligence & data delivery services into private equity, M&A and corporates.

We provide data validation, valuation & value creation across the investment cycle, resulting in:

  • better investment decision making

  • true insight & trends analysis

  • identification of break-out opportunities

  • improved returns

At DataDiligence, we believe that data, as an ecosystem, represents intrinsic value and competitive advantage.  But data is rarely validated or valued with the same rigour as other key commercial assets.

We aim to change this.

Who You are

You are likely a Head of Data & Analytics, or Chief Data Officer, with 5+ years’ experience crafting, developing, and deploying data solutions – a true practitioner.

In this vein, we expect you to have failed.  And to have seen the good, the bad, and the ugly of data science – and to have created a few monsters yourself!  After all, data science is a craft.  But, you’ve learnt by experience. Honing your skills.  Creating efficiencies. Collaborating and learning from others.  All with a view to striking a balance between what is practical today, versus, what might be needed tomorrow.

You will use these years of experience to deliver commercial solutions, and practical insights that enable our clients to unlock the economic value of data in the short and medium term. This will be achieved through your ability to engage and hold senior-level conversations, write compelling reports, and craft recommendations – all of which are underpinned with best practice, well-constructed investment plans, and years of pattern recognition.

What to Expect

DataDiligence, and data science more broadly, is highly collaborative.  We love to share ideas, insights, and methodologies.  You will be expected to share concepts and solutions with the team.

Data science embraces ambiguity, iteration, and continuous improvement.  As a small business, we work on the same principles.

Our clients are often businesses of size but, don’t necessarily have advanced data capacity in-house. So, we frequently play a role of educating people and teams to the benefits of big data and analytics, plus proactively transfer skills – thus working ourselves out of clients.   This also means that you should expect to be a data ‘cheerleader’ and economic-value advocate.

Qualifications you'll Need

You'll likely have a post-graduate degree in a computer science, mathematical or science-based subject. The following degree subjects are particularly interesting to us:

·       computer science

·       data science/computer and data science

·       engineering

·       mathematics

·       mathematics and operational research

·       physics

·       statistics.

We also expect you to have deep, hands-on experience with data analytics, data science, data engineering, machine learning or similar.

The Role you will be playing

As a data lead, you will:

  • lead client engagements, working closely with client teams and your DataDiligence colleagues to identify client issues and use data to propose solutions for effective decision making, automation, augmentation, etc.

  • craft & deliver data strategies that effectively add value – economic, strategic, and operational – to our clients and oversee successful implementation, typically in the role of interim CDO or PMO lead (we affectionately call this ‘air traffic control’).

  • sometimes build, and certainly assess algorithms, plus design experiments to merge, manage, interrogate, and extract data to supply tailored reports to colleagues, customers, or the wider organisation

  • use machine learning tools and statistical techniques to solve business problems

  • test data science, machine learning, and analytical methods and models to select the most appropriate ones for use on a project

  • maintain clear and coherent communication, both verbal and written, to better

  • understand data needs and report results

  • listen hard

  • create clear, well-structured reports and proposals that articulate compelling stories about how clients work with data, using DataDiligence’s frameworks

  • horizon scan to stay up to date with the latest technology, techniques, and methods

  • conduct research from which you'll recommend proof of concepts, mvp, v1.0, etc for client use/advise

  • stay insanely curious and enthusiastic about using data to solve business problems and enthuse others to see the benefit of your work

  • identify, document, and communicate insights, some of which will also be used to create and maintain marketing plans and collateral - including web updates, social media campaigns, industry events, etc.

In this leadership role, you will also need to:

  • recruit, train and mentor data associates and other colleagues

  • show meticulous attention to detail; self-review and review the outputs of others

  • contribute to the organisation's overall strategy

  • be adaptable, well-organised, and able to relate to and grow the team around you

  • establish new systems and processes and look for opportunities to improve the flow of data within DataDiligence

  • evaluate new and emerging technologies

  • represent the company at external events and conferences

  • build and develop outstanding ‘client hands’ and relationship building skills

  • turn complex problems into simple stories and explanations with your excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
